The Verklikkerduinen are a unique nature reserve on the island of Schouwen-Duiveland in Zeeland, featuring beautiful parabolic dunes and wet dune valleys rich in rare plants and flowers. This young dune area formed during the Middle Ages due to the power of the wind and provides habitat for various animals, including rabbits, salamanders, and dragonflies. The three wet dune valleys—the outer verklikker, inner verklikker, and the rabbit circus—are especially rich in flora, including the green knol orchid and the thousand-guilder herb.

The dunes are named after a historical beacon that served as a navigation point for shipping between the lighthouses of Goeree and Schouwen. You can explore the area via the Duinhoevepad and Verklikkerpad, but walking through the dunes themselves is not permitted to protect the animals’ peace. The Verklikkerduinen is also an excellent spot for observing seabirds and offers stunning views of nature.
